Children and Communion
At St Mary’s we welcome baptised children to receive Holy Communion, even if they have not yet been confirmed.
In the Church of England, Holy Communion is the meal of the baptised people of God. Baptism marks our belonging to Christ and to the Church, and the Eucharist nourishes that life as we grow in faith. For this reason many churches now invite baptised children to receive communion as part of the worshipping community, while continuing to prepare for confirmation later.
Before children begin receiving communion they take part in a short period of preparation with their parents or carers, helping them to understand the meaning of the sacrament in an age-appropriate way.
If you would like to explore this for your child, please speak to the vicar.
